They never expected the Federal Government to own significant amounts of real-estate property in all States or\u00a0to hold extensive land ownership and control in newly formed States because this would undermine State authority and could promote Federal over-reach and corruption.<\/p>\n<p>These issues were not considered when Washington DC addressed adding the Western States to the Union.
